In addition to creating his own sculptures, Dan Medina is the Art Director at the Legends foundry. The artists bring him their original models made from a mix of clay and latex rubber called plastiline, and specify the colors to be used in their artistic interpretations. The original sculpture is cut up into smaller parts from which molds are made. Dan supervises the entire production process, from mold making to the casting and welding of the various parts, metal chasing, application of the acid color patinas, and sandblasting and finishing.
We're very proud of having had Dan give us a personal tour of the foundry. Understandably, no cameras were allowed on the foundry floor.
